Northamptonshire Skateparks
The Skateparks Project is a nonprofit organisation (currently going through charity formation) that helps communities get skateparks. We also maintain the UK’s largest skatepark directory.
We are crowdsourced, which means we’re driven by our users who send us updates, news and advice from across the UK. Whether you want to send us information about your local skatepark, write a news article or simply spread the word, there’s always something to do and The Skateparks Project is open to everyone so get involved.
The Skateparks Project was initially started by Alex Jordan in 2005 as a list of skateparks in and around Oakham (roughly between Leicester, Grantham and Peterborough). Back then it was simple called ‘Skateparks Directory’ and was managed by local skaters including Alex. The original website was really successful for several years, but following local park closures, lack of time and people moving away, the site became dated and eventually closed down.
In 2014, having moved to London, Alex decided to give it another go, only on a much bigger scale. The next year was spent developing the idea with local skaters and industry contacts, collecting park information and news. The new website went live in April 2015 and The Skateparks Project was officially launched.
We quickly started receiving requests for help from councils and individuals who wanted a skatepark. Through our growing volunteer network, we have now worked on over 100 skatepark projects as independent advisors and are helping to shape national strategy in collaboration with the UK Government and other interested organisations.
